PSPA School Newsletter Content

January Newsletter Content:

The PSPA would like to wish you all a Happy New Year, and we hope to see you at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on January 22nd, 2018, starting at 6:00pm.  If you’re still unsure about what the Parent Association is all about, this is will be an EXCELLENT opportunity to come and get informed, as we will be conducting a full review of what EXACTLY we did during the past year, and working on some goal setting for next year.  Hope to see you there!

A major focus and purpose of the PSPA is to fundraise in order to provide additional opportunities, experiences, and materials to our students they otherwise would not receive.  Thanks to your participation and support of our fundraisers, the PSPA is very excited to be affording our students an Elev8 Lacrosse Residency during the week of January 12th!!  Throughout this residency, students will acquire lacrosse skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities, in a varied environment, all while experiencing the health benefits that result from physical activity!  The PSPA would also like to thank our school for making the appropriate arrangements and scheduling adjustments required to allow this to happen!

Happy 2018!  We look forward to seeing you at our Annual General Meeting on January 22nd, at 6:00pm, and as a reminder, as always, the school doors will be locked, but because it is after hours, no one will be manning the buzzer, so PLEASE, arrive early to ensure entry!

December Newsletter Content:

Happy December from the PSPA!

We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped organize, set up and clean up after the Toy Bingo the PSPA hosted on November 24!  And to everyone who attended!!  This event had an amazing turn out, and fun was had by all!!  It really was a rewarding event to put on, and the PSPA was thrilled to receive so much terrific feedback!  Thank you!

November 24th, 2017 PSPA Toy Bingo.  Approximately 200 people were in attendance, and 57 toy prizes were awarded.  (This photo was taken with parental consent and permission was given to publicly post/circulate it - THANK YOU parents!)

Another huge thanks goes out to our school staff and the Trickster team for collaborating such an awesome production November 30th and December 1st.  Additionally, the PSPA also wanted to express our thanks to our fabulous parents who gave their time, energy and resources to facilitate such a  wonderful week with Trickster!  Without their service in the background, many things just would not have been possible!  The PSPA is so proud of the community spirit and willingness  that was shown, as many of the parent volunteers scheduled childcare and moved around other commitments to show up and support our kids.  They came early, stayed late and overall were just so flexible and awesome.  Volunteer parents, you are all to be very proud of what transpired and how well you worked together! Thank you!

NOVEMBER 2017 News:

ALIEN SKATING:  We hope everyone who attended the Family In-Line Skate Night on October 11th enjoyed themselves - the event had a tremendous turn out, and it was so fun and rewarding to see all the smiling faces, and everyone’s impressive improvement in skills by the end of the evening.

As mentioned at the event, the PSPA paid for in-line skating residency program, and for the family evening event - so a big thanks to the parents who attend meetings and bring forward ideas such as these, and to everyone who contributes to our fundraisers which pay for this kind of stuff!!  And a HUGE thank you to our school for coordinating it all!

COOKIE DOUGH: And speaking of supporting our fundraisers…  When cookie dough forms went out in October, the PSPA presented a goal for our school families to sell a combined 200 boxes.  WELL!  We are VERY pleased to inform you all, that we CRUSHED that goal by selling a whopping 338 boxes, and between the cookie dough sales, and the donations we received, the Pineridge School Parent Association earned approximately $2,250.00 in profit during this fundraising campaign!  THANK YOU SO MUCH to those who participated!

PS: Just some honorable/brag-worthy mentions: the top selling student sold 37 boxes ($644.00 worth)!  There was also a $615.00 order, and a $505.00 order well… another for over $300.00, 4 over $200.00, and 13 over $100.00, and 25 students qualified (by selling over 5 boxes each) for a chance to win one of the 4 $25.00 gift cards prizes we were giving away!  (The winners were announced on our website and facebook page on October 20th.)

COOKIE DOUGH PICKUP:  Cookie dough orders will be available for pick up on November ___, between 3:15pm - 3:45pm from the school gymnasium.  Should you be unavailable during this time, please contact Karen MacKinnon, PSPA President at 403.689.3064 or via email: karenmyyc@gmail.com to make other pick up arrangements.

TOY BINGO SAVE THE DATE: On November 24th, the PSPA is hosting a TOY BINGO at the Pineridge Community Hall, located across the street from our school.  The event will run from 6:00pm-7:30pm that Friday evening, and all Pineridge families will be welcome to attend.  Children MUST attend with an adult, and we hope you will join us for this event!!  Further information will go home in the coming weeks, but this will be a very fun event, (and there will be approximately $800.00 in toy prizes to be given away!!), so please, mark your calendars!!

NEXT MEETING: The next School Council & PSPA meetings will be on November 13th, from 6:00pm-7:30pm, at the school.  Please arrive early, as the doors will be locked, and the buzzer will not be manned to permit entry once the meetings begin.  Hope you can make it!

October greetings from the PSPA!

Please keep an eye in your children’s backpacks early October for Gourmet Cookie Dough Fundraiser forms!  This fundraiser will run between October 3rd - October 18th, and from each box of cookies sold, $6.80 will stay in our school.  There will be 6 delicious flavours to choose from, 36 pre-portioned cookies will come in a box, and each box will sell for $17.00.  Our goal is for our school families to sell a combined 200 boxes, which would earn us a profit just shy of over $1,300.00!  PS: These are the cookies Subway sells, and we all know Subway has the yummiest cookies!!

The other significant fundraiser we will run this year will be in the spring, and will be a Casino Fundraiser.  We are only eligible to work a Casino Fundraiser every 18 months, and these fundraisers bring in upwards of $65,000.00 every time we work one (and sometimes even over $80,000!), but they require a significant amount of volunteers.  PSPA Casino Fundraisers fund a lot of items and opportunities at our school that our students otherwise would not receive, such as field trips, equipment/technology/resource material upgrades, residency programs and SO MUCH MORE, and therefore are SO important.  Without enough volunteers, we will have to forfeit our opportunity to participate in the Casino Fundraiser, and therefore lose out on all the revenue and opportunities they bring.  We will send more information home once our Casino dates are announced, but it is our sincere hope that our families will be willing to help out when the time comes.  If you would like to know more about Casino Fundraisers, please call 403.777.6750 extension 4 to speak with our Volunteer Coordinator.

The PSPA will be running a Fun Lunch on October (date TBD), and pizza will be on the menu!  An order form will be send home in the coming weeks, and we will be looking for parent volunteers (who have completed their school security clearance report) to help distribute the lunches, so please mark your calendars if you can (11:25 am - 12:15 pm).

The next PSPA and School Council meetings are on October 2nd and November 13th, from 6:00pm-7:30pm.

Have a terrific October everyone and thank you for your continued support!
