December PSPA School Newsletter Content

Happy December from the PSPA!

We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped organize, set up and clean up after the Toy Bingo the PSPA hosted on November 24!  And to everyone who attended!!  This event had an amazing turn out, and fun was had by all!!  It really was a rewarding event to put on, and the PSPA was thrilled to receive so much terrific feedback!  Thank you!

November 24th, 2017 PSPA Toy Bingo.  Approximately 200 people were in attendance, and 57 toy prizes were awarded.  (This photo was taken with parental consent and permission was given to publicly post/circulate it - THANK YOU parents!)

Another huge thanks goes out to our school staff and the Trickster team for collaborating such an awesome production November 30th and December 1st.  Additionally, the PSPA also wanted to express our thanks to our fabulous parents who gave their time, energy and resources to facilitate such a  wonderful week with Trickster!  Without their service in the background, many things just would not have been possible!  The PSPA is so proud of the community spirit and willingness  that was shown, as many of the parent volunteers scheduled childcare and moved around other commitments to show up and support our kids.  They came early, stayed late and overall were just so flexible and awesome.  Volunteer parents, you are all to be very proud of what transpired and how well you worked together! Thank you!

PSPA November News

ALIEN SKATING:  We hope everyone who attended the Family In-Line Skate Night on October 11th enjoyed themselves - the event had a tremendous turn out, and it was so fun and rewarding to see all the smiling faces, and everyone’s impressive improvement in skills by the end of the evening.

As mentioned at the event, the PSPA paid for in-line skating residency program, and for the family evening event - so a big thanks to the parents who attend meetings and bring forward ideas such as these, and to everyone who contributes to our fundraisers which pay for this kind of stuff!!  And a HUGE thank you to our school for coordinating it all!

COOKIE DOUGH: And speaking of supporting our fundraisers…  When cookie dough forms went out in October, the PSPA presented a goal for our school families to sell a combined 200 boxes.  WELL!  We are VERY pleased to inform you all, that we CRUSHED that goal by selling a whopping 338 boxes, and between the cookie dough sales, and the donations we received, the Pineridge School Parent Association earned approximately $2,250.00 in profit during this fundraising campaign!  THANK YOU SO MUCH to those who participated!

PS: Just some honorable/brag-worthy mentions: the top selling student sold 37 boxes ($644.00 worth)!  There was also a $615.00 order, and a $505.00 order well… another for over $300.00, 4 over $200.00, and 13 over $100.00, and 25 students qualified (by selling over 5 boxes each) for a chance to win one of the 4 $25.00 gift cards prizes we were giving away!  (The winners were announced on our website and facebook page on October 20th.)

COOKIE DOUGH PICKUP:  Cookie dough orders will be available for pick up on November ___, between 3:15pm - 3:45pm from the school gymnasium.  Should you be unavailable during this time, please contact Karen MacKinnon, PSPA President at 403.689.3064 or via email: karenmyyc@gmail.com to make other pick up arrangements.

TOY BINGO SAVE THE DATE: On November 24th, the PSPA is hosting a TOY BINGO at the Pineridge Community Hall, located across the street from our school.  The event will run from 6:00pm-7:30pm that Friday evening, and all Pineridge families will be welcome to attend.  Children MUST attend with an adult, and we hope you will join us for this event!!  Further information will go home in the coming weeks, but this will be a very fun event, (and there will be approximately $800.00 in toy prizes to be given away!!), so please, mark your calendars!!

NEXT MEETING: The next School Council & PSPA meetings will be on November 13th, from 6:00pm-7:30pm, at the school.  Please arrive early, as the doors will be locked, and the buzzer will not be manned to permit entry once the meetings begin.  Hope you can make it!

Please fill out your Volunteer Forms!

PINERIDGE SCHOOL PARENT ASSOCIATION

IMPORTANT!!!!  PLEASE READ!

If you only volunteer for one thing this school year, this is the BIG ONE!  We will need you, your friends and family, and anyone else you may know that would be able and willing to help out!  The next Pineridge School Parent Association Casino Fundraiser will take place in the Spring of 2018 (dates still to be announced), and our casino fundraisers generally bring in upwards of $65,000.00! (Sometimes even over $80,000.00!)

Volunteering for a Casino Fundraiser is EASY, fun (honestly), and the $$ they bring in for our school is beyond meaningful!  The last PSPA Casino Fundraiser was in October of 2016, and the PSPA made $67,013.45 by volunteering at it!

PSPA Casino Fundraisers fund a lot of items and opportunities at our school that our students otherwise would not receive, such as field trips, equipment/technology/resource material upgrades, residency programs and SO MUCH MORE.

We are only eligible to work a Casino Fundraiser every 18 months.  Casino fundraisers run over two days at one of the casinos in Calgary, and require a commitment of over 40 volunteers!  - THIS IS WHY WE ARE RECRUITING EARLY and sending home this information today – because as long as we have enough people to work, we earn the mega money for our school, but without enough volunteers, we will have to forfeit our opportunity to participate in Casino Fundraisers, and therefore lose out on all the revenue and opportunities they bring.

PLEASE FILL OUT YOUR VOLUNTEER FORMS AND INDICATE THAT YOU MAY BE AVAILABLE AS A CASINO VOLUNTEER IN 2018.

NOTE: No prior experience is needed for any casino volunteer position, and no position is “hard.” – You will not be a Black Jack dealer for the day, or anything like that, and many of the volunteer positions will require NO public socializing/mingling or math skills…  (Some of the positions include cashing in winnings, and bringing more chips to game tables)  Also, school volunteer security clearance checks are NOT necessary for volunteering at casino fundraisers.

Please fill out your volunteer form accordingly so the PSPA has the right to contact you when our Spring 2018 Casino Fundraiser dates are released to see if you may be available to volunteer for it.  Further information about the Casino fundraiser, and the volunteer positions will be sent home in the months to come, once our dates are announced.

If you have not yet filled out a Volunteer Form, please ask for one by leaving a note in your child's agenda, or by inquiring at the main office.

(a VERY last minute) Invitation to attend a Technology Expert Presentation

Paul Davis, a technology safety expert spoke to the grade 5/6s today (September 13th), and ALL Pineridge School Parents/Guardians are invited to hear him speak tonight as well. The presentation is tonight at Cecil Swanson School at 6 PM.
Several members of the PSPA have attended this presentation in the past and can attest that he shares MUST HEAR advice for parents. Please make the time to attend this event if you can. PS: If you think your children are too young for this to be relevant for you, we assure you, your time will not be wasted by attending.
Apologies for the incredibly short notice, but our school was lucky enough to secure Paul last minute, as their was a gap in his schedule today and the parent session comes as with the booking.

Click here to read the summary notes from the last time Paul Davis spoke to our parents.

September School Council/PSPA

School Council & PSPA meetings are TONIGHT (Sept 11th) at the school! 6:00pm-6:45pm for School Council & 6:45pm-7:30pm for PSPA. As always, the doors will be locked, so you must arrive on time to ensure entry to the school. (Because it's after hours, nobody will be manning the buzzer, so if you're late, unfortunately you will be locked out)

At School Council, our principal has a lot of topics to cover, including what the decreased enrollment numbers may mean for us this year, as well as what some of the highlights for this school year are - Come to find out more!

During the PSPA meeting, we will be voting on the PSPA Fall Fundraiser. Options include: coupon books, popcorn, cookie dough, Coco Brooks, bacon/jerky, or skipping all of that, and simply asking our families for donations. Attend to share your thoughts below (profit margins for each are listed on the agenda), or leave a comment on our Facebook page and we will share your opinion at the meeting.

PS. There will be cookies tonight... The good Subway ones!

Hope to see you tonight!  To review the agendas ahead of time, click here.
